The Friday Feedback Forum

Hey guess what? IT’S MY BIRTHDAY!!! Yay! Happy happy day! It’s my last year in my twenties (and I’m looking forward to the glorious thirties, oh yes I am), and of course my last birthday before baby changes it all. Very exciting – it’s going to be a wonderful weekend!

And speaking of birthdays, we’ve got Bonzai’s first birthday coming up here on February 1st. I’m going to celebrate of course (because, wow, is there a lot to celebrate or what?!), and I’d love your ideas of how to do it. What should we do for the first anniversary of this little web project that’s become so much more than I ever could have hoped or dreamed? Gimme gimme your ideas!!!

As usual, the Feedback Forum will remain here at the top of the page all weekend, so if you’ve got an idea or a question or you just want to introduce yourself and say ‘Oi!’, you can stop back by any time. This is your community, so get involved and have your say!

And just a few announcements (so much business this week . . . )

1) For those in the Chicago area, there’s an upcoming event that parallels perfectly with our Monday Monthly Mission! On the weekend of March 20-21, the Swap-O-Rama-Rama will host a clothing swap, fashion show, and a series of DIY workshops. Check out the link and if you’re interested in getting involved, the next volunteer meeting is Saturday January 23 (that’s tomorrow). Check it out!

2) Vegan Yummies for a good cause! Isa Chandra Moskowitz of the Post Punk Kitchen has done an amazing job of organizing a collection of vegan bake sales to benefit Haiti. We all know how much they need the money, so check it out and if there’s a sale near you, support it! And eat some vegan treats in the process. Win-win!

Okay, have a great one guys! I know I will!!!

This is my first comment on your wonderful little blog, but i’ve been stalking it daily for about a month now. I started out with your “no-poo” challenge (Which, by the way, is BRILLIANT. I will never go back to shampoo). Ever since then I’ve truly enjoyed all your tidbits of information, finding inspiration in this community to live with purpose and intention, so thank you!

One thing I noticed in particular was similar taste in clothing and style from your posts on fashion influence from the 90′s. I thought to myself, “hmmm…we must be similar in age”, because your memories of that decade triggered so many of my own. After today’s post, i realize that we were born the same glorious year. HOpe you have a wonderful birthday!

HAPPY BDAY from Mexico!

Idea for the blog b-day: How about doing a very special MMM? Special how and about what? No idea… maybe make it a year-goal mission instead of a monthly one for a change?

I just thought that since Feb 1st is a Monday (and the first of the month too)…

Sometimes browsing Bonzai Aphrodite and reading all of these long and perfect posts full of brilliant ideas, I forget that there’s actually a real person behind it all! Seeing that you needed to take some time off for yourself and concentrate on your and your family’s wants proved that you’re not a 24h-working-idea-generating-blogging robot :D THAT gives this place here a true aura, that you really let your person (and somewhat personality) show and brighten this website up. Haha! It might sound all crazy for you but you know, sometimes people forget that there are other human beings behind our beloved daily blogs. AND you even have a birthday!!! How awesome is that?!

So. HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Enjoy your new 30th year in this magical world. Lots of love and inspiration!

(About Bonzai’s birthday: I’m all out of ideas.. but I’d definitely like to see the birthday kid’s statistics and hits! That’d be interesting :) Oooh! Or.. how about a brand new layout/theme? A layout-contest? Just a random thought :P )

For xmas, my boyfriend’s grammy gave me a turtle neck sweater from Nordstroms that I would never wear. I took it back tonight and looked around the store to see if there was anything I might want. I just about had a heart attack looking at the reduced price jeans at $54! The regular ones were $175 – $250. I didn’t see a single thing I even wanted to try on so I thought I’d take a look at the shoes and try to find something I could wear to work. Out of pure curiosity I looked at the price of a simple pair of flip flops by designer Manolo Blahnik. $395! This makes me so outraged! There are people sleeping outside in Haiti with no food and no water and people here spend $395 on a pair of shoes simply because some guy designed them and people say they are worth that. What is wrong with our society?

THANK YOU so much to everyone, for all the wonderful birthday wishes! You guys rock!

@ Erin – Yay for early 80′s babies, and I will love early nineties fashion forever!!!!!!! Nothing beats grunge, ever. Remember when girls wore plaid boy boxers . . . as shorts? Haha, oh man Junior High, so bad.

@ Advaya – Oh, happy birthday!!! I love birthday twins! Hope it was a wonderful one for you!

@ EroSan – I like that idea. I have just the MMM in mind, too. Do you live in Mexico or are you just on vacation?

@ Minna – Thanks lady, and I agree. It seems a lot of people on the internet forget that there’s real people on the other side of the computer. It’s important to remember that we’re all humans here! Not that I think any Bonzai readers have that problem. =)

@ Allison – I hear ya lady. Sometimes I have mixed feelings on the issue because on the one hand, I totally agree with everything you said, while on the other hand, I understand paying tons of money for art, and I do consider [some but definitely not all] fashion an art form. I can really see instances where spending a lot of money on a piece of clothing is justifiable. But like you said, giving some corporation hundreds of dollars for a mass produced piece of footwear . . . not really the same thing. Anyway, it reminded me of the art-as-fashion debate and also the putting-a-price-on-art debate, both of which interest me but neither of which I should really get into here.

AAaaaand I think I’ve had too much sugar.

THANK YOU EVERYONE!!!

@Sayward- I specifically remember a pair of red, black, and yellow plaid boxers in my wardrobe, yes! (and yikes!)

the staples that i lived it are vivid to me:
-mix and matching patterns
-my love for knee high and thigh high socks were born when i used to pair them with a short, babydoll dress and combat boots :)
-baggy overalls and plaid flannel shirts
-my favorite outfit was a floor skimming, bias-cut skirt, which was black, royal blue, and gray plaid. i used to pair it with vintage, graphic t’s and combat boots. oh the love.
-and who could forget the chain jewelery? or the wallet chains? oh man. i’ve got to stop before i get giddy.

i think 90s grunge is on the verge of a comeback. i, for one, will welcome it with open arms.

Thanks for letting me reminisce!

@ Erin – Yesss! Oh man you *nailed* it! I also developed my lifelong love of knee highs during that era. And combat boots.

And I lived in my baggy overalls. I would wear them with body suits. Remember that little trend? Snap crotch, Ack!

@ Amycat – Haha, thanks lady! I swear I’m not a psychopath!

@ Katie – Thanks and you’re welcome! =D

@ Melissa – HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Yay birthday twin, hope it was a good one for you! And yes, I hear that the 30s are much better. I’ll be there in one more year!

A few things:
- happy belated!
- so, science girl, do you have any info on how (or whether it’s even possible) to get the printed on letters off of plastic and glass bottles so they can be re-used?
- OMG thank you for the Chicago Swap info!!! I am SO psyched because that is only 3 BLOCKS FROM MY HOUSE!! Yay!
- on some other blogs that I follow, there is a little check box option to receive by e-mail all of the comments following your own. This would be super helpful cuz I often forget to check back for your replies after I post comments. Is that something that’s possible here?

January 28, 2010

@ boliyou – Thanks! And I did! =)

@ erosan – Que bueno! Yo fue al Yucatan para mis vacaciones después de mi boda. (was that a total hack job? I apologize, I haven’t taken a Spanish class in years, but I miss it!!!) I grew up in southern California and I think the hardest thing about moving to the Pacific Northwest, was the missing Mexican culture! I was so used to hearing Spanish all the time and seeing the art and architectural influence and of course the food and music. Bah! I miss it! And next time I’m down in that part of the world (we’re planning a return for our 5-year anniversary) I’ll definitely let you know!

@ Jackie – Thanks!

I’m not sure what you mean by the printed on letters? I can only picture actual labels, which of course are paper so I’m sure that’s not what you’re referring to. Can you be more specific or maybe link to a picture or something?

Oh yay, let me know how the Chicago swap goes! I can’t wait ot hear about it.

I’m going to look into the follow-up comment feature. I’ve had requests for that before so I know people are interested. I’ll bring it up with my web development technician! . . . er . . . husband. =)

@Sayward: wow, it’s a small world isn’t it? I totally mean it, when you come, please let me know (your spanish was pretty decent btw!)

I think @Jackie might mean serigraphy (screen printing)?

Regards,
